Slapdash Upcycling DIY: Inexplicable Bloomers to Stripy Baby Trousers in an Hour

lobster tee (Baby Gap sale), trousers and posing infant (DIY)
Yesterday, as Mister G took a nap, I felt compelled to build a pair of stripy trousers to inflict on him out of a pair of pyjamas I had put in the pile for the charity shop. Despite my massive excitement at following a real life sewing pattern last time, I decided to bosh these together in the quickest, easiest way possible, relying on my spirit animal to guide me to this triumph of slapdashery:

Step 1: locate inexplicable pyjama bloomers:

I'm not sure how much of a market for second hand pyjama bloomers there is anyway?
Step 2: overlay a pair of trousers that fits, lining them up at the crotch, to get the approximate size. Idea being that you save yourself the trouble of sewing up the crotch and inseams.

I don't know why the lighting is so dramatic. High drama pants.
Step 3: cut around the shape of the template trousers, leaving a couple centimetres seam allowance all around, plus an extra couple of centimetres above the waistband so you can fold this down to create a passage for the waistband elastic.

the bloomers were surely ugly, but they were a soft brushed cotton flannel with a suitably old timey, Deadwood, ticking stripe
Step 4: sew together the sides, hem the trouser legs and put in a simple elasticated waist.

Step 5: FEEL AWESOME while watching offspring speak Mandarin and do kumon maths while playing the violin, or attempt to eat crayons and lick his face in the mirror. Either way.

this kid and his excitement just blow me away.
and I swear that mirror was clean before G got to it
