Favourites: a few of the books we love
The Tate Modern shop has a great children's book selection, including When I Was Born, by Isabel Minhós Martins and illustrated by Madalena Matoso. The pictures are bright and fun (G loves to point at the little yellow dog and each of the birds in the tree) and the text, about all the things he's discovered since he was born, is really sweet.
My favourite line is probably:
"But I could not imagine how the waves speak when they come and go.
Or how, when the wind sings, the trees sing too. Or how nice it is when someone whispers in your ear.
Or how loud it can be when something falls. Or how a leaf falling just goes: plip!"

Would it be weird to just buy this for myself? It looks so lovely, and is oddly profound.

Beautiful book. I could spend HOURS in the Tate modern book shop (way longer than I could spend in the Tate modern).
