The chicken sort. Mister G seems pretty much okay in himself so far - a little subdued, but nothing too dramatic. It's probably a good thing to get it out of the way while he's still so young although it sucks to see the poor wee bean covered in spots.
Are there any other childhood diseases to tick off on the list these days? When I was a kid it was chickenpox and mumps, but G has had his mumps vaccination so I guess hamster faces are a historical relic around here (a good thing. My mum took me school shoe shopping with my massive round face and the reassurance that 'nobody will realise, they'll just think that's how you look'. Win.)
Last I heard (by which I mean, in the 1980s when I had it) calamine lotion was the way to go, but I don't think there's much else to be done other than sitting it out and lifting the time limit on Sesame Street videos.
We went through it easily. \In fact I didn't even realise S had it til my next door neighbour pointed at the few spots and said "I think he has chicken pox". Oh good, just as we'd come back from the park having infected half the playground. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteHe had only a handful of spots - I could count them on 2 hands. None of them seem to bother him either - less itchy when they are little maybe? And I didn't draw attention to them! I bought Piriton to ease the itch incase it ever happened...but we just trundled through it pretty ok without any need for medicine. Hopefully you'll be the same!
Yes! Glad S didn't suffer too much. G doesn't have that many spots (so far) and doesn't seem to have noticed them (yet!) so fingers crossed we'll continue like this - I'm just afraid of speaking too soon ;)
DeleteI have playground guilt too (shhhh don't tell anyone it was us!)
When it gets bad start the party tradition. When each of my sisters and I had them, my parents would break out the "pizza in the park party" and we'd pick up pizzas (since we couldn't be in public) and go to a rather secluded park to run around and eat somewhat forbidden things like pizza, soda, and ice cream. It certainly took our mind off the scratching for awhile.
